Vijay Kumar wins Silver for India in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at Olympics




India's Vijay Kumar shoots silver medal in 25m Rapid Fire Pistol at London Olympics. Cuba's PUPO Leuris won the Gold, and China's DING Feng won the Bronze. Vijay Kumar hit 30 of the 40 targets while the Gold medal winner Pupo Leuris hit 34 of the 40 targets.


India now have 2 medals at the 2012 London Olympics. Already Gagan Narang won Bronze in the 10m air rifle few days back.

So, the current Rank of India in London 2012 Olympics is 32.



Vijay Kumar hails from Harsour village in Himachal Pradesh and he is presently serving as subedar in the Indian Army.

At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, Vijay Kumar had won two gold medals, the individual 25 metre rapid fire pistol competition and the pairs competition in the same event together with Pemba Tamang. In the 2010 Commonwealth Games Vijay Kumar won 3 gold medals and one silver.

In 2007, Vijay Kumar received the Arjuna Award.

Vijay Kumar is the second Indian after double trap shooter Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore to win an Olympic silver medal. Rathore won the maiden Olympic silver for India in 2004 Athens.
