Impact of "Google Instant Preview" in Web development and SEO

Google is continuously working on improve its Search Engine so that it can be superior irrespective of Yahoo-Bing merger.

Few months back Google had released Google Instant which allows you to see search results as you type.

Now Google has announced Google Instant Preview which shows image-based snapshots of search results to make it even faster to choose the right result.

Instant Previews provides a graphic overview of a search result and highlights the most relevant sections with orange colored boxes, making finding the right page as quick and easy as flipping through a magazine.

To use it, click once on the magnifying glass next to the title of any search result and a visual overview of the page will appear on the right. From there, hover your cursor over any other result to see a preview. (You need not click the magnifying glass again, just mouseovering on the title and/or magnifying glass is enough)

Google says,

Instant Previews can be helpful for many kinds of tasks. For example, say you looked at a page before and need to find it again—with a preview, you can tell if any of the results look familiar. Or perhaps you’re looking for an official website—look for a logo and formal style and you’ll probably be able to identify it. Or maybe you’re looking for a how-to guide—it’s easy to spot a page with clear illustrations and step-by-step instructions.

Google is rolling out this new feature to every country step by step.

If you are still not seeing the "magnifying glass" in your search results you can try this here.

Now, as a Web Developer we need to analyze the impact of this Instant preview on Web development and SEO.

This new feature will force the user to come into your site only if your site shows preview of large images and clear flow of content. So, it is important to develop pages nicely so that they can attract the visitors.

Google's this step may reduce significant traffic. Because the users can get the required details from the preview snapshot itself. So, they may not visit your site. (Anyway if you don't want the Google to show your web page snapshot, you can prevent it by using meta tag)

If you have Flash in your web page, I think it may not appear in the preview.

And, if you have excessive Ads, the Google users can come to know about it before visiting your site. So, they may not visit your site unless you are the only one providing their desired content.

And, if you are doing SEO you need to understand the impact of Google instant along with this Instant Preview features.

All these new features are targeting to allow the users to get their desired results without navigating next pages.

So, you need to work on to bring your web pages on first page without concentrating on particular keyword. i-e Appearing in first page for longer search phrase is better than appearing in Second page for short search phrase even if your page is appearing in tenth page for Short search phrase.
