NASA's Shuttle Endeavour blasts off as the commander's wounded wife, Rep. Gabrielle Giffords, watches [VIDEO]


NASA's space shuttle Endeavour lifted off today (May 16th) on its final space flight.

Endeavour launched from Kennedy Space Center , reaching orbit in eight and a half minutes.

The shuttle is now on the first day of a 16-day mission.

This launch was watched by hundreds of thousands of spectators including the Endeavour commander Mark Kelly's wife, Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona politician shot in the head by a gunman in January.
